Ben spent his life as a boring old mechanical engineer, having never stepped foot in a theatre until his granddaughter Maggie's sophomore year in high school. Her appearance as Gladys Antrobus in THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH changed his life. Maggie's, too. She fell in love with theatre and plans to pursue it as a career when she finishes college in the spring of 2025; Ben also fell in love with theatre, and has been making up for lost time by attending every play and musical he can, wherever he is, and whether or not Maggie is in it. Now a retired engineer, and widower, Ben has fallen into a second career, as a fledgling playwright. With two plays down, and a new adaptation of Charles Dickens' GREAT EXPECTATIONS on the way, he's keeping his fingers crossed that things work out. A thousand thanks to cousin Mike for the old family photos!
Scattered throughout this section are more family photos from the collection my cousin Mike has been gathering for years. The photo from 1926, above next to my bio, are my grandmother, Geneva, and her sister, my great aunt Mildred. To the immediate left are their parents, my maternal great grandmother and grandfather, Hester and John Patton.
I feel lucky to have known two great grandparents - both maternal - Granny Pat, and Granny Hunter, my mother's father's mother. Very little seems to exist about the Hunters and I'm desperate to find a photo of me, at maybe 5, with my snuff-loving Granny Hunter sitting in her wheelchair. I was patting her stump. Mike's from the other side of the family, and yes, I asked him, just in case.
